Two local members of Team Alaska represented Alaska at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, Florida and both brought home medals from the national competition.
Darryl Magen, from Soldotna, competed at the USA Games in swimming.
Darryl won a gold medal in his heat for the 110-meter freestyle with a time of 2:35.48, and raced to a silver medal for his 50 meter freestyle with a time of 1:02:280, shaving six seconds off his personal best time. Team Alaska was represented with two swimmers from Alaska.
Josh Delei and his partner Sam Eason competed as unified teammates and won gold medals in both the doubles bocce ball match and the singles bocce ball match.
Darryl Magen and Josh Delei, both representing the Central Peninsula Community, joined a record 29 athletes, 11 Unified partners, 13 coaches and 14 support staff a part of Team Alaska. Team Alaska competed in eight different of the sports including: Unified Basketball, Unified Bocce, Bowling, Unified Golf, Gymnastics, Powerlifting, Swimming, and Track & Field.

The USA Games offers 19 Olympic-style team and individual sports, including athletics (track & field), basketball, bocce, bowling, cheerleading, equestrian, flag football, golf, gymnastics, open water swimming, powerlifting, soccer, softball, stand up paddleboard, surfing, swimming, tennis, triathlon and volleyball. The USA Games ran June 5-12 in Orlando, Florida.
