Adjusting to the continuing decrease in the 14-day average case count for COVID-19 on the Central Peninsula, the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex spectator limit has been raised to 750 spectators for the final two-game series between the Kenai River Brown Bears and the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
The Brown Bears face-off against the Ice Dogs on Friday and Saturday, May 14-15 with game times scheduled for 7:30 p.m. each night.
Soldotna City Manager Stephanie Queen announced the adjustment to the spectator limit on Tuesday, following discussions with the Brown Bears and evaluating the covid mitigation measures approved by the Soldotna City Council. The decision to change spectator counts does not require action from the Soldotna City Council.
Under the City of Soldotna Resolution 2021-009, Section 6, the SRSC dropped the total spectator limits to 250.
“Should the number of COVID-19 cases in the Central Kenai Peninsula exceed an average daily case rate of 10 per 100,000 population over a 14-day period, the spectator capacity allowed at any ice event at SRSC shall automatically reduce to 250 people and the Council will reevaluate the SRSC COVID-19 protocols.”
Resolution 2021-009 passed on a 6-1 vote by the Soldotna City Council on February 24, 2021.
The Resolution allows for the Soldotna City Manager to adjust numbers based on current covid numbers and trends.
