6:00 pm Update:

The Kenai Spur Highway remains closed at Mile 2 after a fatal accident near Sport Lake Road.

Megan Peters said Alaska State Troopers responded to the accident just after 2:00 pm.

Peters: “There was a two vehicle wreck, one of the vehicles was towing another vehicle and when the two vehicles collided unfortunately two people in one of the vehicles was killed.

The two people killed were in a white pickup involved in the accident; two people in the motor home received non-life threatening injuries.

She said she cannot estimate when the road may reopen; Sport Lake Road traffic is being routed through back roadways.

Troopers have a lot of work to do on the investigation.

Peters: “Essentially they map where the vehicles are, if there’s evidence at different locations, they map where that is compared to where the main wreckage is so that needs to be done. Then of course we have to clear the vehicles out of the roadway and depending on tow trucks and how and when they can get there I don’t know how long this will be for this wreck.”

We will monitor and update when the highway reopens.

4:50 pm Update:

Peters did not have any other information on injuries or conditions of anyone else involved.
