Championship Saturday for the ASAA Division II State Soccer Championships featured showdowns between the Soldotna Stars and teams from Juneau in the girls and boys championship finals at Service High School.
Girls Division II Soccer Championship Game
Juneau Girls 5 – SoHi 1
Soldotna’s Lily Coon scored a first half goal for the Stars, which proved to be the only goal in a 5-1 loss to the Juneau Crimson Bears. Juneau’s Taylor Bentley scored a hat trick for the Crimson Bears. Juneau repeated as champions having won the state title in 2019 over the Stars.
Boys Division II Soccer Championship Game
Thunder Mountain 3 – SoHi 2
Thunder Mountain opened with a pair of goals in the first half before SoHi’s Josh Hieber netted a goal before the half. The Falcons added a third goal before the halftime whistle. In the second half, Hieber scored on a penalty kick to draw the Stars to within a goal midway through the second half. Final Score: Thunder Mountian 3 – SoHi 2.
The Kenai Kardinals won the Division II state soccer championships in 2018 and 2019.
