Week six of the regular season for high school football featured the Nikiski Bulldogs at home against Peninsula Conference opponent Homer, the Soldotna Stars on the road to battle Northern Lights Conference Kodiak and the Kenai Kardinals at home for a non-conference pairing against Large School opponent Chugiak; all three games on Saturday.
Saturday Game Results
SoHi 42 – Kodiak 0
The Stars shutout Kodiak to improve to 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Northern Lights Conference. SoHi extends its current, state-best winning streak to 45 games.
Game Summary: SoHi opened with three first quarter touchdowns; a 48-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Crowder to Brenner Furlong, a 36-yard touchdown run by Furlong and an interception return for a touchdown by Brice Martin.
The Stars added a single touchdown in each of the following three quarters. Jeremiah Lefao scored on a 1-yard run; Furlong scored on a 7-yard run and Crowder scored on a 1-yard carry. SoHi’s defense held the Bears scoreless allowing only 110 yards.
Nikiski 22 – Homer 6
The Bulldogs build a 3-0 lead into a 22-6 victory over Homer in Peninsula Conference action. Nikiski improves to 4-2 and have won four, straight games.
Game Summary: The Bulldogs shutout Homer through three quarters, en route to a 22-6 victory. Nikiski lead 3-0 at the half on a 28-yard field goal by Ian Johnson. Patrick Perry scored to open the third with a 14-yard run. Ian Johnson scored twice with a 3-yard and a 5-yard touchdown run. The Bulldogs amassed over 300 rushing yards and no passing yards.
Chugiak 48 – Kenai 3
The Kardinals offense never got on track; as the Chugiak Mustangs dominated the first half for a 48-3 halftime lead.
Game Summary: Kenai managed only a 28-yard field goal by Zack Tuttle in the first quarter. The Mustangs and Kardinals combined for 24 penalties for 225 yards.
The Kardinals finish the regular season with two road conference games; Kenai needs a win at Palmer on Friday night to secure a Medium School division playoff spot.
