The Soldotna Stars and Kenai Kardinals worked their way from opposite sides of the NLC Conference Tournament Bracket to face one another in the Conference Championship. The teams are set for the big showdown on Saturday, May 25 at 3:00 p.m.
The Stars and Kardinals faced off in the Division II State Baseball Championship in 2023; Soldotna won and picked up their second straight DII State title. Despite the back-to-back titles, the Stars have yet to win a conference title. They fell to Palmer in 2022 in the NLC Championship and were bounced by Palmer once again in the Semifinal of the 2023 NLC tournament.
Kenai heads to the Conference Championship game after taking third in the 2023 conference tournament, knocking off the Stars in that game by a lopsided final 14-1.
Saturday’s game will be the first time the cross-town rivals have faced one another in conference tournament play since Kenai’s 3rd place win in 2023.
