The Big C Relays, Alaska’s largest track and field meet held on the nation’s largest indoor 400+ meter track, featured nearly 1000 competitors in two days of competition.

The Soldotna and Kenai track teams posted outstanding performances against the state’s best, including individual and relay championships.

In addition to the national best performance turned in by Allie Ostrander in the Elite Co-Ed 3200M event (see Ostrander story); the Stars and Kards posted meet championships and numerous personal bests, and even a school record or two.

Pentathlon

The Pentathlon event is usually measured and calculated using conversion charts and a slide-rule; SoHi’s Tim Duke made the scoring simple–He placed first in four of the five disciplines ( and second in the 100M)!

Duke won the Pentathlon 300M hurdles (40.32), the high jump (6’1″), the shot put (38’6″ ), and the 800M run (2:04.67), and placed second in the 100M with an 11.6. Duke’s composite score was 3764.
