The Soldotna Stars downed Kenai 13-3 in Southcentral Conference baseball action on Tuesday, the first pairing of the Stars and Kardinals in the early baseball season.
SoHi built a 7-0 lead into the fifth inning on solid pitching and an offensive attack which included Brandon Crowder, 2 for 3 with two doubles, a run and an RBI, Kenny Griffin, 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs and Joey Becher, 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. The Kardinals recorded three runs in the fifth on a three-run home run by Paul Steffensen.
A six-run, fifth inning for the Stars ended the game with the mercy rule. SoHi improves to 2-0 and Kenai stands at 2-1 in the early standings.
SoHi and Kenai will both send junior varsity teams to the Houston JV Invitational this week with games scheduled for Thursday through Saturday.
