The Soldotna soccer teams opened the regular season on the road in Homer on the artifical turf, recording SoHi’s first contests of the 2018 outdoor season.
The games on Tuesday were non-conference games against conference opponent Homer. Homer and SoHi, as well as, Kenai, Nikiski, Seward and Voznesenka make up the newly-formed Peninsula Conference in the first-year Division II of high school soccer.
SoHi Girls 1 – Homer 1
The SoHi girls struck early with a first-minute goal by Haley Buckbee with an assist to Whitney Wortham. The 1-0 lead held until late in the contest when Homer’s Andie Somen tied the game in the 63rd minute.
SoHi Boys 1 – Homer 5
The Homer Mariners dominate play in the SoHi boys road opener in Homer. The Mariners built a 5-0 lead and held-off the Stars until late in the contest. Eli Sheridan scored the lone SoHi goal.
The Soldotna Stars travel to the Valley for non-conference hockey games on Friday and Saturday. SoHi will play Colony on Friday with the boys game scheduled first at 5 p.m. for the boys, followed by the girls at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the SoHi girls varsity opens with a 10 a.m. game, followed by the boys varsity at noon (note the time changes).
Nikiski vs Kenai soccer scheduled for Wednesday, April 11th has been re-scheduled for April 23rd at KCHS.
