A win on and off the court for the Soldotna volleyball team on Tuesday; the SoHi girls defeating Nikiski in a non-conference contest at Soldotna High School on Breast Cancer Awarenesss Night at SoHi.
The Stars battled the Bulldogs in a four-game victory for SoHi and tagged Nikiski with its first head-to-head loss of the regular season.
SoHi won game one 27-25, dropped game two 21-25, and closed 25-17 and 25-23 for the match victory.
Front row hitting highlighted the varsity match with Nikiski’s Bethany Carstens recording 18 kills. SoHi’s Aliann Schmidt recorded 15 kills and Bailey Leach recorded 14 kills for the Stars.
The Breast Cancer Awareness night, with assorted fundraisers throughout the three volleyball matches, raised $2,023 for the Breast Cancer Fund of the Central Peninsula Health Foundation. According to Coach Sheila Kupferschmid additional funds will be generated through a serve-a-thon at the SoHi practice and through a SoHi “class Challenge” running through the end of October.
SoHi and Nikiski are both scheduled to compete in the Dimond/Service Volleyball Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Anchorage.
