The Homer Mariners hockey team recorded its first North Star Conference victory with an overtime 3-2 win over the Soldotna Stars on Tuesday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.
Garrett Butcher scored the game-winner for the Mariners with only :52.5 seconds remaining in the extra period.
After a scoreless first period, SoHi lead 1-0 after two periods of hockey on a Cameron Knowlton goal.
The Mariners tied the game early in the third with a Dimitry Kuzmin goal just 1:58 into the third. SoH answered with the go-ahead goal by Levi Hensley at 6:40 of the third. The Mariners quickly re-tied the game at 2-2 with a Tim Blakely goal just :40 seconds later.
The overtime goal by Butcher gave Homer a 3-2 NSC victory.
Riley Swanson, in goal for Homer, recorded 36 saves on 38 shots; SoHi goalie Billy Yoder saved 26 of 29 shots.
