Stars Hockey Hold-off Kards In Overtime On Senior Night

The Soldotna Star hockey team rallied from a 3-1 deficit after one period for a 4-3 overtime victory over the Kenai Kardinals on Senior Night for both programs.

The Stars, with the win, improve to 6-4 in the North Star Conference and secure the #3 seed for the upcoming North Star Conference tournament in Homer.  Kenai finishes the regular season at 5-5 and the #4 seed into tournament play.

SoHi 4 – Kenai 3 OT

SoHi’s Nick Wrobel scored the first and last goals of the contest for the Soldotna Stars in SoHi’s overtime 4-3 win over the Kards.  Wrobel’s overtime gaol came just :37 seconds into the extra period.

The Stars scored the game’s first goal, by Wrobel, for a 1-0 advantage.  Kenai answered with three, 1st period goals for a 3-1 lead.  Kardinal goals were scored by Jake Eubank, Dalton Dosko and T.J.Wagoner.

The SoHi defense shut-out the Kardinals for the remainder of the game lead by goalie Cody Harvey.

SoHi scored two goals in the second period; one for Jacob O’Lena and one for Toma Johnson for a 3-3 tie after two periods.  A scoreless third period and the contest went to overtime. 

Wrobel’s goal hands the Stars the victory and a 2-0 record against the Kards in conference games.

North Star Tournament

The North Star Conference Hockey Championships begin play on Thursday, February 6th at the Homer Ice Rink.

The Stars will face #6 seed Palmer in the early game.  The Kardinals will match-up with the host #5 seed Homer Mariners in the late game.  Tournament details will be available Monday.
