Stars Hockey Takes Pair In Juneau: Kenai Hockey Drops Pair To West

The Soldotna Stars hockey team moved into first place in the Railbelt Conference with a pair of victories in Juneau against the Crimson Bears.

Kenai hockey dropped a pair to DI West Anchorage in non-divisional hockey home games.

 

SoHi 3 – Juneau-Douglas 1  Friday

The Stars opened their road-swing to Juneau with a 3-1 victory over the Crimson Bears.  The Stars and Bears played a scoreless first period; then all four goals of the game were scored in the second period.  Juneau led early 1-0, before the Stars Blake Bucho tied the game.  SoHi’s Gehret Medcoff gave the Stars a 2-0 lead and Andrew Arthur closed the scoring for the 3-1 SoHi victory.  In goal for the Stars, Tanner Clyde recorded 16 saves on 17 shots.

SoHi 4 – Juneau 3 OT   Saturday

SoHi’s Daniel Heath score :53 seconds into the overtime to push the Stars past Juneau 4-3 for the two-game sweep of the Crimson Bears in Juneau.  The game scoresheet shows Silas Larsen with the Stars first goal coming in the first period for a 1-0 lead.  Marshall Dereave gave the Stars a 2-0 lead in the second period before Juneau scored three, unanswered goals and taking a 3-2 lead early in the third period.  The Stars tied the game in regulation with a Silas Larsen goal with under two minutes remaining.  Heath’s overtime, game-winner improves the Stars to 5-1 in Railbelt Conference games.  Jackson Purcell recorded 22 saves on 25 Juneau shots between the pipes for the Stars.

 

Kenai 2 – West Anchorage 9  Friday

Logan Mese scored both Kenai goals in a 9-2 victory for the West Eagles on Kenai’s senior night for Kardinal hockey.

Kenai 1 – West Anchorage 8  Saturday

The Kardinals were held to a single, Landen Cialek goal in an 8-1 loss to the West Eagles.
