The Soldotna Stars and Kenai Kardinals met for the first time in Northern Lights Conference basketball for 2014-15; with the Stars defeating the Kards on Tuesday at Soldotna High School.
SoHi Girls 34 – Kenai 23
SoHi girls built a 22-10 lead at the half. Haley Miller lead SoHi with 10 pints; Abby Beck topped the Kards with 9 points.
SoHi Boys 67 – Kenai 63
The SoHi boys lead by 24 points at the half 41-17, with a 28-point, second quarter. Kenai rallied in the second half to close to a basket in the final :30 seconds. SoHi converted 7 of 8 free throws in the final two minutes. Dylan Kuntz, 14; Joe Weltzin, 16; and Nate Spence, 15 all scored in double-figures for the Stars. Jonah Theisen, 18; Josh Jackman, 14; and Keith Ivy, 14 all scored in double-figures for the Kards.
Conference opponent Palmer will be in town for the weekend, completing a tough, two-week stretch of conference games.
Kenai vs Palmer on Friday, girls game at 6:00 p.m. and boys game at 7:30 p.m.
SoHi vs Palmer on Saturday, girls at 3:00 p.m. and boys game at 4:30 p.m.
