Stars & Kards Close Hockey Weekend With 1-2 Records

Neither Kenai or Soldotna hockey teams were able to double-up on their remarkable victories on Friday over Anchorage opponents; however, both programs held their own on Saturday against the teams from the big city.

 

SoHi 1 – West 2

The Stars and Eagles played a scoreless first period before West notched the first goal 4:39 into the second and added a second goal before the intermission.

SoHi’s Galen Brantley III scored in the first minute of the third period to draw the Stars to within a goal at 2-1.

Neither team lit the lamp for the remainder of the contest.  Corbin Wirz, in goal for the Stars, recorded 33 saves; West goaltending faced only nine total shots on goal.

 

Kenai 2 – Dimond 6

The Kardinals allowed four, third period goals to the Dimond Lynx in a 6-2 non-conference win for Dimond on Saturday.

Kenai scored on a Levi Mese goal in the first period and a Nate Beiser goal in the second period.  Kenai lead 2-1 four minutes into the second period.  Josh Tree turned-away 54 shots in goal for the Kardinals.

 

Homer 10 – East 1

The Mariners finished the weekend with a 2-1 record against Anchorage opponents recording a 10-1 victory over East Anchorage.
