North Star Conference hockey showdowns opened on Thursday with the three teams from the Valley traveling to the Central Peninsula for conference games against Soldotna and Kenai Central High School.
Palmer 3 – SoHi 2
The Soldotna Stars rallied for two late, third period goals to force overtime against the Palmer Moose in Thursday’s opening contest; the Moose winning 3-2 in the overtime period on a contested goal, which appeared to enter the goal through a hole in the back of the SoHi goal. After deliberation by the game officials and under protest from the SoHi players, the goal was upheld and the Moose earned a 3-2 NSC victory. Galen Brantley III scored both SoHi goals.
