The 2023 ASAA First National Cup Division II Hockey State Championships open play on Thursday, February 2nd with the Soldotna Stars and the Kenai Kardinals earning berths into the eight-team state bracket.
The Division II hockey state tournament games will be played at the Patty Center at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks in Fairbanks running Thursday through Saturday, February 2-4.
The Soldotna Stars, seeded #3 into the state tournament, finished second in the Railbelt and face-off against Aurora Conference #6 Monroe Catholic in Thursday’s 5 p.m. first round contest.
The Kenai Kardinals, with an at-large berth from the Railbelt Conference, are seeded 5th overall and will play #4 seed Juneau, also from the Railbelt, in the noon game on Thursday.
All tournament games involving Kenai and SoHi will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM, 96.9FM and streamed live and free at radiokenai.com.
The Houston Hawks from the Aurora Conference earned the #1 seed with an 8-0 conference record and a 21-1-1 overall record. Houston opens against #8 seed Delta in the 2:30 p.m. game on Thursday. Palmer, Railbelt champion and #2 seed, opens with North Pole in the 7:30 p.m. contest on Thursday at the Patty Center.
