Stars & Kards Produce Stellar Performances At Lady Lynx Basketball Shootout

Bracketed play in both the Gold and Maroon Brackets at the 2019 Dimond Lady Lynx Prep Shootout featured outstanding performances by the Kenai Kardinals and the Soldotna Stars girls basketball teams.

 

Following eight games on Wednesday to determine the Gold and Maroon Brackets ( Gold for the winners and Maroon for the first day losers) bracket play began with the first round of the three-day brackets.

 

Maroon Bracket

Kenai 49 – Ketchikan 45

The Kenai girls led 23-18 at the half and built a 10-point lead (36-26) after three quarters against the Ketchikan Kings, en route to a 49-45 Maroon Bracket victory.  Kenai’s lead was cut to four by the Kings as Kenai held-on for the win.  Brooke Satathite lead the Kardinals with 19 points including eight in the final quarter and 9 for 9 freethrow shooting.  Jaycie Calvert hit four three-pointers for the Kards.

Kenai advances to play Lathrop  in the 8 p.m. winner’s game on Friday in the Dimond Auxillary Gym.

Gold Bracket

Dimond 56 – SoHi 49

The Soldotna Stars matched blow-for-blow with the reigning 4A girls state champion Dimond Lynx on the Lynx home floor on Thursday night before falling 56-49.  The Stars and Lynx were tied 13-13 after the first quarter and Dimond lead 26-24 at the half.  In the first half, SoHi lead by four and Dimnod held a five-point lead.  The Lynx lead 44-42 after three quarters and SoHi, on a Brittani Blossom three pointer, held a 45-44 lead before a 12-4 Dimond run to close the game.

Danica Schmidt scored 14 and Itu Tuisaula totaled 13 and Blossom added 12 for the Stars.  Alissa Pili lead Dimond with 38 points.

SoHi will face West Valley in the 4:30 p.m. contest Friday in the Gold Bracket in the Dimond Main Gym.
