Stars Down Homer 5-4 To Close Hockey Tournament

The 2015 End of the Road Hockey Tournament, a three day, round-robin hockey tournament featuring Soldotna, Houston, Homer and Dimond JV hockey teams, concluded Saturday at the Kevin Bell Arena on the Homer Spit.

The Dimond JV Lnyx finished 3-0 with a 9-1 victory over Houston on Saturday, good for the tournament championship.

SoHi, with a 2-1 record, finished second on the strength of a 5-4 victory over Homer in the tournament’s final game.

Saturday Game Results: SoHi 5 – Homer 4

The Stars held-off a late Homer surge for a 5-4 victory over the Mariners  Following an opening Homer goal, the Stars answered with three first period goals, one for Cameron Knowlton, one for Calvin Hills and a goal for Jace Urban.  The Stars lead 3-1 after the first period.  In the second period, Homer scored twice in nine seconds to tie the game at 3-3.  The Stars regained the lead with a pair of goals in the third period for a 5-3 advantage.  Goals scored by Levi Hensley and Ethan Brown.  The Mariner’s closed to 5-4 on a power-play goal; then the Stars held for the final 9:30 for the victory.

Friday Game Results

SoHi fell to Dimond JV 6-1 allowing four goals in the third period.

Thursday Game Results

The Stars downed Houston in the tournament opener 4-2.  Cameron Knowlton scored a pair of goals and Cody Nye and Cory Hanson added single goals.  SoHi goalie Billy Yoder turned-away 28 shots.

The Dimond JV team defeated host Homer 3-2 in the tournament’s second contest.

 

The Stars play Dimond JV at 5:00 p.m on Friday and face Homer on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
