In the double-elimination format Northern lights Conference Volleyball Tournament, the Soldotna Stars have put themselves in the best position realistically possible with a split on the opening day of the tournament in Palmer.

Northern Lights Conference Tournament

The Stars defeated Wasilla in the opening pairing between the #5 seed Stars and #4 seed Wasilla.  SoHi downed the Warriors in three-straight lead by Katelynn Morrison’s 15 kills.  The win advanced SoHi into a 7 p.m. Thursday match against undefeated #1 seed Colony.

Against the Knights, SoHi held their own and challenged the Knights falling 25-17, 30-28 and 25-19.

The Stars have an opportunity to advance in the NLC tournament and qualify to the ASAA State Division I Volleyball Championships with a victory on Friday in the 5 p.m. game at Palmer High School against the winner of the 3 p.m. Wasilla vs Kodiak pairing (the winner will play back-to-back games).

A victory for SoHi guarantees a finish of no lower than third; the top three in the NLC advance to the ASAA State Division I Volleyball Championships.

The Stars play for a spot at state on Friday at 5 p.m. at Palmer High School.  Palmer and Colony play in the semi-final, winner’s bracket game at 7 p.m. Friday.

Southcentral Conference Volleyball Tournament

The eight-team Southcentral Conference Volleyball Tournament features two days of bracket action with the teams divided and seeded by South and North.  Kenai earns the #1S seed with a 10-0 conference record.  Grace Christian earns the #1N top seed.

Tournament play begins on Friday, November 5th at Redington High School.  Kenai draws #4N ACS in the 9 a.m. game.  Nikiski, #4S seed, opens against Grace Christian on Friday at 1:30 p.m.  Homer, #2S, plays Houston; #3S Seward matches-up against host Redington in the first round.
