The opening round of the 2022 ASAA Division II State Baseball Championships featured four bracketed games with the Kenai Kardinal and Soldotna Stars in first-round action.
The SoHi baseball team opened with an impressive 15-1 victory over Grace Christian School. The Kenai Kardinals fell to North Pole 7-3. Tournament #1 seed Palmer fell to the #3 At-Large team Kodiak 4-3.

The Kenai Kardinals play in the consolation game at 11 a.m. against Grace Christian.
The SoHi Stars advances to a Friday afternoon, winner’s bracket game against the North Pole Patriots at 4 p.m.
The SoHi vs North Pole game will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM, 96.9FM and streamed live at radiokenai.com.
The winner of the SoHi vs North Pole game advances to the ASAA Division II State Championship Game scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. The loser will play in the 3rd Place Game at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Game Recap: SoHi 15 – Grace 1
The Stars dominated Grace Christian 15-1 in five innings allowing only a first-inning, unearned run to the Grizzlies. The Stars scored seven runs in the first, a run in the third, and seven runs in the fourth inning. Dylan Davidhizer pitched five innings allowing 1 unearned run and striking out five batters. Davidhizer also lead the Stars at the plate with two hits, two runs, two RBI; Atticus Gibson added 3 RBI and two runs; Derrick Jones went 2 for 3 with two RBI (game stats via ASAA365).
SoHi faces North Pole in the winner’s bracket, semi-final at 4 p.m. Friday in Wasilla.
Game Recap: North Pole 7 – Kenai 3
The #1 seed from the Fairbanks Mid Alaska Conference North Pole defeated Kenai 7-3. Kenai opened a 3-1 lead in the first inning on a pair of RBI by Braden Smith. North Pole scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead. Gabe Smith, on the mound for Kenai, allowed six runs in the start.
Kenai will face Grace Christian at 11 a.m. with the winner advancing to the 4th Place Game on Saturday at Wasilla High.
