The Soldotna Stars hockey team recorded a 2-1 victory over Lathrop in Friday’s consolation round at the ASAA 2014 First National Cup State Hockey Championships. SoHi advances to the 4th-place game on Saturday, set for a 9:00 a.m. start at the Wasilla Sports Complex.

SoHi 2 – Lathrop 1:
The SoHi Stars rallied from a 1-0 deficit with a late, second period goal by Kenny Griffin to tie Lathrop 1-1 after two periods.
SoHi senior Nick Wrobel scored the game-winner for the Stars midway through the third period. Final Score: SoHi 2, Lathrop 1.
The Stars advance to play for 4th place; which would tie SoHi for their highest state championship finish.
Chugiak 2 – SoHi 1: First Round Results
Soldotna High’s six-game win streak in overtime games ended in the Stars opener at the state hockey tournament.
SoHi drops a 2-1 decision to Chugiak in triple-overtime.
The Soldotna Stars opened play at the ASAA 2014 First National Cup State Hockey Championships on Thursday at the Wasilla Sports Complex facing-off against Chugiak High.
For the seventh time this season, SoHi played into extra time and for the first time the Stars were unable to pull-out an overtime victory.
Chugiak 2 – SoHi 1
The Stars and Mustangs battled through two periods of scoreless hockey setting-up a tense third period. The Stars scored the game’s first goal with only 4:29 remaining in the game on a BoBo Lott goal, assisted by Hunter Lott and Jacob O’Lena. Chugiak answered with the tying goal with only 1:20 remaining in regulation time.
The Stars and Mustangs played scoreless hockey through two overtime periods, setting-up a third extra period.
Chugiak scored the game-winner with 5:01 remaining in the third overtime. Final score: Chugiak 2, SoHi 1.
SoHi goalie Cody Harvey recorded 40 saves for the Stars.
The Stars qualified to the state tournament with a 3-0 NSC tournament weekend which included a 2 OT victory over Colony and a 4 OT victory over Wasilla. The Warriors also qualify to the state tournament; Wasilla faces #1 CIC Dimond High.
