The 2018 Kenai Peninsula Borough Track and Field Championships crowned both the Soldotna High School girls and boys as team champions in a full day of competition on Saturday at SoHi.

 

KPBSD Track Championships: Girls Results

Girls Team Scores: 1. Soldotna, 176; 2. Homer, 124; 3. Kenai, 101.

The Soldotna girls claimed the team title on the strength of team depth with the SoHi girls winning only four individual event and two relays.

Sophie Thomas lead the Soldotna girls with first-place finishes in both the 100M hurdles and the 300M hurdles.  SoHi took five of the top six spots in the hurdle events.  Thomas also raced with the Star girls in victories in the 4X200M and 4X400M relays.

The Star girls depth was on display in the throwing events with Emily Pieh winning the girls discus and Ituau Tuisaula taking the girls shot put.  SoHi placed five in the top six in the shot put and four of six in the discus.  Homer’s Anna Brock placed second in both throws.

Kenai’s Hayley Maw raced to a victory in the 100M with a new Kenai school record.  Maw and the Kenai girls also won the 4X100M relay.  Jaycie Calvert from KCHS won the 1600M.

Seward’s Ruby Lindquist raced to victories in the 400M and 800M.  Homer’s Marina Carroll won the triple jump and high jump; and Mariner Laura Inama was a dual winner with victories in the 200M and long jump.

 

The SoHi girls have captured five-straight KPBSD Borough Track Championships in a row.

 

KPBSD Track Championships: Boys Results

Boys Team Scores: 1. Soldotna, 215; 2. Homer, 114; 3. Kenai, 64; 4 (tie). Nikiski, Seward, 58 points.

The Soldotna boys team also dominated through depth and their strength in the field events.

The Stars won the shot put, discus and triple jump.  Galen Brantley III took first in the shot put; Wendall Tuisaula won the discus and Bechler Metcalf jumped to a victory in the triple jump.   SoHi placed 1st, 3rd and 4th in the shot; 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the discus and 1st and 2nd in the triple jump.

SoHi’s Brenner Furlong posted three sprint wins with victories in the 100M, 200M, and 400M .

Kenai’s Maison Dunham won both the 1600M and 3200M runs and Kenai’s Jarett Wilson raced to wins in the 110M hurdles and 300M hurdles.

 

The Soldotna boys team recorded its third-straight KPBSD Track Championship.
