Stars Record Railbelt Hockey Shutout Over Houston: Kenai Outskates Palmer

Railbelt Conference hockey featured the Soldotna Stars posting a shutout of Houston 6-0 and the Kenai Kardinals downing Palmer 4-1 on Friday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.

 

SoHi 6 – Houston 0

The Stars generated six goals in a 6-0 shut out of the Houston Hawks on Friday night in Railbelt Conference hockey.  David Aley scored SoHi’s first goal at 8:46 of the first period and the Stars lead 1-0 after one period.  The Stars recorded four, second period goals for a 5- lead.  Galen Brantley III scored at 3:19; Journey Miller netted an unassisted goal at 3:57; Aley adds a goal at 5:12 and Liberty Miller scores her first goal of the season at 5:58.  SoHi added a Trent Powell goal in the third period for the 6-0 SoHi victory.  Josh Tree recorded 14 saves in goal for the Stars.

 

Kenai 5 – Palmer 2

Kenai and Palmer skated through a scoreless first period then combined for four goals in the second period and a 3-1 Kenai advantage.  Kenai opened with a Hunter Owen goal and added a Cooper Stock goal for a 2-0 lead. Palmer scored to close the lead; however, Kenai answered with a goal at the buzzer by Dan Sheldon for a 3-1 lead after two periods.  Nate Beiser added an empty-netter with 1:51 remaining for a 4-1 lead.  The final Palmer goal is a power-play goal by Owen Hayes with :26 seconds remaining.  Kenai netted one more with a shot off the post and in by Tucker Vann with only seconds left.  Final Score: Kenai 5, Palmer 2.
