Stars Set For So-Cal Battle Friday Night: Kards & Bulldogs Play Divisional Games On Saturday

Things are back to “Alaska Normal” for week four of the high school football season.

 

The Soldotna Stars battle a 10-time CIF champion in San Diego County with a pairing against Christian High School set for Friday, September 6th in El Cajon, California.

Kenai Central travels 500 miles each way by bus to play Lathrop in Fairbanks for a Division II pairing on Saturday afternoon.

And Nikiski hosts 2017 Small School Champion Barrow on Saturday, the Whalers traveling 900+ miles by air and land for a divisional game.

 

Soldotna Stars vs Christian High School (El Cajon, California)

Friday, September 6th     6 p.m. Alaska Time

The Soldotna Stars put their 2-0 Alaska record, which includes two victories over two Division I football teams West and South who were both ranked #1 at the time of each teams defeat at the hands of the Stars, on the line in Southern California with a Friday Night Lights game against Christian High School in El Cajon, California.

The Stars defeated South Anchorage 53-20 on Saturday before leaving for San Diego on Sunday to prepare for the Patriots.  SoHi, in two games this season (SoHi’s week two contest was cancelled due to travel conditions on the Sterling Highway due to the Swan Lake Fire) has posted 102 points against two Anchorage DI opponents and the defense has generated 10 turnovers including six interceptions.

Christian High School has won 10 total CIF championships including 2011, 2013 and 2014 in CIF Division III.  Christian is currently 1-1 with a week two victory last Friday over De Anza High School.

Nikiski vs Barrow @ Nikiski     Saturday, September 7th      2 p.m.

The Nikiski Bulldogs, looking for their first victory of the young season, stand at 2-0 and host the 1-1 Barrow Whalers at Nikiski High on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Bulldogs look to improved on a defense which has allowed 80 points in two games and build consistency on an offense which has averaged only 15 point per game.  Nikiski needs to begin a push to the playoffs, having missed the Division III playoffs the past three years.

The Whalers are 1-1 with an impressive win over Ketchikan in week one.  The Whalers won the 2017 Division III football championship.

Kenai vs North Pole @ North Pole    Saturday, September 7th    1 p.m.

The Kenai Kardinals are back on schedule and back on the road with a trip to Fairbanks to battle North Pole High School on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Kenai traveled to Juneau (at the last minute) in week three to avoid a second-consecutive week without a game and suffered a loss to the Division I Juneau Huskies (co-op team of Juneau and Thunder Mountain).

The Kardinals (1-1) head to North Pole in search of a divisional victory facing an 0-4 North Pole Patriot team which has managed only 9 points per game.  Kenai ‘s offense has averaged 23 points per game.
