The Soldotna Stars defended home ice and the Kardinals dropped a road contest in Juneau in Railbelt Conference hockey, opening a pair of two-game series for SoHi and Kenai.
SoHi 9 – Kodiak 0
SoHi’s experience and depth proved overpowering for the Kodiak Bears as the Stars posted a 9-0 shutout on Friday night in Railbelt Conference hockey action.
The Stars, using multiple lines and multiple combinations controlled play throughout, although the SoHi scoring was slow to develop. The Stars scored once in the first period, added three goals in the second period and closed with five, third period goals.
Jace Applehans recorded a three-goal, hat trick for the Stars scoring the first, and only goal of the first period for a 1-0 SoHi lead.
In the second period, Silas Larson scored twice and Daniel heath added a goal for a 4-0 SoHi advantage. The third period belonged to the SoHi offense with goals scored by Applehans, Dawson Lockwood, Applehans again, a goal credited to Marshall DeRaeve and a final goal by Liberty Miller.
In goal for the Stars, Tanner Clive recorded the shutout with 23 saves. Kodiak’s Aiden Johnson recorded 40 saves on 49 shots.
Juneau 4 – Kenai 2
The Crimson Bears rallied with three goals in the final two periods for a 4-2 victory over the visiting Kenai Kardinals in Railbelt Conference hockey in Juneau o n Friday.
Juneau opened with a goal early in the first period by Dylan Sowa for a 1-0 lead. The Kardinals responded with goals by Logan Mese and Avery Martin for a 2-1 Kardinal advantage. the 2-1 Kenai lead held until Juneau tied the game in the second period on a Brenden West.
Juneau closed with two, third period goals (Anna Dale and Caden Johns) for the 4-2 victory. In goal for Kenai, Evyn Witt recorded 18 saves; Kenai outshot Juneau 33-22.
