The second round of the Peninsula Ice Challenge hockey tournament featured an 11-0 shutout of the Tri-Valley Warriors and a near-shutout 8-1 victory for the Houston Hawks over the Kenai Kardinals.
SoHi 11 – Tri-Valley 0
SoHi’s Daniel Heath recorded a four-goal, hat trick to lead the Soldotna Stars past Tri-Valley 11-0 on Friday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex in the Peninsula Ice Challenge second round.
SoHi led 2-0 after one period with goals by Jace Applehans and Mykah Booth. In the second period, the Stars added goals by Boone Theiler, and a pair of Daniel Heath goals for a 5-0 advantage. Heath opened the third period with his third goal, followed by goals by Gehret Medcoff, Silas Larsen, another Heath goal, and goals for Blake Bucho and Jace Applehans. SoHi goalie Tanner Clyde faced only nine shots, while the Stars recorded 56 shots on goal.
Houston 8 – Kenai 1
The Houston Hawks improved to 2-0 in the Peninsula Ice Challenge with an 8-1 dismantling of the Kenai Kardinals.
Kenai’s lone goal came in the third period off the stick of Toby Petty. The Kardinal’s managed only 18 shots on goal against the hawks.
The Hawks and Warriors will play in the 1:15 p.m. game on Saturday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.
