A tune-up for the girls teams before a weekend tournament and a non-conference pairing for the boys teams only game of the week; the Soldotna Stars defeated Nikiski in non-divisional basketball at Nikiski on Tuesday.
SoHi Boys 65 – Nikiski 55
The Stars opened a 27-14 lead in the first quarter as the teams traded three-pointers. SoHi makes the lead hold-up throughout for a 65-55 victory. A 15-point, fourth quarter closed the gap for Nikiski. The Stars Andrew Pieh scored 18 and Zac Buckbee added 14 for SoHi; Charlie Chamberlain lead the Bulldog with 20 points. Both boys teams are off for the weekend then return for a final three-week push through the regular season.
SoHi Girls 55 – Nikiski 25
The SoHi girls opened-up a 26-12 halftime lead and extended to a 55-25 victory in non-divisional basketball at Nikiski. Shelby Burman topped Nikiski with 10 points. The Stars Josie Sheridan scored 12 points and Kaytlin McAnelly and Analie Sedivy each scored 10 points.
The SoHi and Nikiski girls will compete in the Grace Grizzlies Hardwood Classic Basketball Tournament running Thursday – Saturday, February 9-11 at Grace Christian School in Anchorage.
Nikiski opens Thursday against Monroe in the 4:45 p.m. game; folowed by SoHi vs Lumen Christi in the 6:30 game.
