Stars Volleyball Sweeps Palmer in NLC Action: Bulldogs Sink Mariners

The Soldotan volleyball team took a pair from Palmer on the Stars home court with victories on Friday and Saturday, each game went the distance extended to a fifth game.  Nikiski needs five games to close-out Mariners.

 

SoHi vs Palmer: Northern Lights Conference

Friday night in front of a packed house on “Tip for Tori Night”, the Soldotna girls rallied from a a two game deficit to win three-straight and close-out Palmer 15-9 in the fifth game.  SoHi fell 25-19 and 25-22 early, then took game three 25-20 and 25-23.

Saturday afternoon SoHi won game one 25-19, dropped games two and three 25-20 and 25-22.  SoHi ties the match with a 25-22 game four; SoHi wins the fifth game 15-13 for the sweep.  Itu Tuisaula lead the Stars at the net recording 19 kills on Friday and 22 kills on Saturday.

The Stars improve to 4-0 in the Northern Lights Conference and 5-0 overall.  SoHi also won the Shayna Pritchard Memorial Tournament early this season.

 

Nikiski vs Homer: Southcentral Conference 

A total team effort for the Bulldogs pushed Nikiski past Homer in a five-game match.  Nikiski won the odd games 25-18 and 25-21 while the Mariners took the even games 25-13 and 25-23.  The deciding fifth game goes to Nikiski 15-11 for the Southcentral Conference victory.

Kaycee Bostic recorded 12 kills and Lillian Carstens added 10 kills.  Kaitlyn Johnson totaled 20 assists and 10 digs and America Jeffreys added 18 digs.  The Bulldogs stand at 1-0 in the SCC.
