The 2016 ASAA State Baseball Championships, hosted at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage, opens three days of tournament play on Thursday, June 2nd.
Eight teams representing four conferences are seeded into the state tournament bracket based on last week’s conference tournament results. The top two teams form the Southcentral Conference, Wasilla and Soldotna; two teams from Mid-Alaska, Monroe and Lathrop; two from Southeast, Sitka and Ketchikan; and two from Anchorage, South and Chugiak.
The Soldotna Stars, runner-up at the Southcentral Conference tournament, will open the tournament on Thursday against the #1 team from Southeast, Sitka. Game time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at Mulcahy Park.
The Stars are making their third appearance at the state baseball championships; Sitka is a standard at the state tournament with four state championships under the programs belt.
