The bracket for the ASAA Division II Hockey State Championships was released on Monday morning; the bracket comprised of six automatic berths and two at-large berths to the state tournament. The hockey championships run Thursday through Saturday, January 31-February 2 at the Menard Arena in Wasilla.
The Soldotna Stars, 9-1 in Railbelt Conference, are in!
The Kenai Kardinals, 2-8 in the Railbelt, are not!
The Soldotna Stars are awarded the #1 seed and will face the at-large berth Delta in the tournament’s first contest scheduled for noon on Thursday.
Coverage of SoHi games at the state tournament will be provided on ESPN 1140AM and streamed live (and free) at www.radiokenai.com.
The Stars defeat Delta 10-0 to move forward to play on Friday at 5 p.m against the Palmer Moose.
The Kenai Kardinals were not awarded one of two at-large berths available under the newly-designed Division II hockey qualifying standards. Delta, 4-6 in the Aurora Conference, and Palmer, 3-6 in the Railbelt Conference, received the two, at-large selections from the selection committee.
Division II State qualifiers include:
Railbelt automatic qualifiers: SoHi, Juneau-Douglas, Homer
Aurora automatic qualifiers: North Pole, Glennallen, Tri-Valley
At-Large: Palmer, Delta
