State Initiates Individual Assistance Program for Wildfire Victims

The State of Alaska has activated an individual assistance program to help those affected by wildfires this year, including residents near the Card Street Fire.

 

Jeremy Zidek with the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management said there are two programs under the individual assistance.

Zidek: “The individual and family grant program can provide funding for people who lost their primary residence, their primary means of transportation, if they have any medical/dental/funeral expenses that were a direct result of the disaster. It can also pay for personal items that may have been destroyed if those are essential items. There’s also a temporary housing program.”

 

The temporary housing program offers up to 18 months of assistance for homeowners who had their primary residence destroyed while renters can qualify for up to three months of assistance.
