Governor Bill Walker’s proposal to establish a marijuana control board has been approved by legislators…
Senate Floor: “An Act establishing the marijuana control board, relating to the powers and duties of the marijuana control board, relating to the appointment, removal, and duties of the director of the marijuana control board, relating to the alcoholic beverage control board and providing for an effective date.”
The Senate passed the bill Saturday and the House signed on yesterday.
Part of last November’s voter initiative required either the Alcohol Beverage Control Board or a new marijuana board to develop the laws for commercial and retail marijuana growth and sales.
The ABC Board will share its resources and staff with the new board. The five members will include representatives from rural Alaska, the public health and safety sector, and the marijuana industry.
The bill established $1.5 million in funding for the board.
