The Homer Police Department has sent the body of a deceased man found on the beach over the weekend to the State Medical Examiner in order to identify him.
Homer Police Chief Mark Robl says the body was found in a rocky beach area approximately a half mile out on the Homer Spit on Saturday at around 12:30 pm.
Robl: “Upon examination the man appears to be a white male adult, approximately 55 to 65 years of age and it appeared that he died to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.”
He says his department hasn’t found any abandoned camps or vehicles in the area.
Robl: “There’s no missing persons in our area that match his description, and none that I’m aware of statewide.”
Chief Robl says the State Medical Examiner will examine the man for any evidence and other indicators that may determine his identity.
Authorities ask that if anyone has any potential information about the man to please call the Homer Police at 907-235-3150.
