Day two of the ASAA State Nordic Ski Championships featured classic style events and Saturday’s final day showcased mixed relay teams; as teams from throughout Alaska competed for individual and team titles.
ASAA Nordic Ski State Championships: Overall Standings
The West Anchorage girls and boys teams raced to team championships on the course at Birch Hill in Fairbanks.
West Valley’s Kendall Kramer, with a victory in the classic event on Friday, captured the girls Skimeister Award as the top skier based on combined time in the classic and freestyle events. Kramer passed 2017 Skimeiser Molly Gellert of West Anchorage with a strong classic performance.
The boys Skimeister Award was again claimed by Service High’s Gus Schumacher; as Schmumacher won both the freestyle and classic races.
The West girls placed first in Saturday’s Mixed Relay event; the Service boys raced to the Mixed Relay event victory.

ASAA Nordic Ski State Championships: Peninsula Results
SoHi’s John-Mark Pothash lead all male peninsula skiers with a 10-place finish in the overall standings for the ASAA Nordic Ski State Championships. Kenai’s Karl Danielson finished 15th in the combined events total time.
Kenai’s Addison Gibson’s two-day combined time placed her 11th in the Skimeiseter standings; Riana Boonstra placed 20th overall.
Boys 10-K Classic Race
Pothast finished tenth in the 10-Kilometer Classic event on Friday with a time of 31:49, the top peninsula skier. Kenai’s Karl Danielson placed 11th at 32:05; just :16 seconds behind Pothast. SoHi’s Jeremy Kupferschmid placed in the top-50 with a 45th place in the classic race.
Girls 7.5-K Classic Race
Addison Gibson from KCHS, with a 12th place finish in the classic style event, lead the girls from the peninsula; Gibson completing the course in 29:31. Kenai’s Riana Boonstra placed 22nd; Seward’s Ruby Lindquist, 23rd; Homer’s Autumn Daigle, 28th
