A bill to provide increased access to vaccinations for all Alaskans sponsored by Senator Cathy Giessel unanimously passed the Senate.

Sen. Giessel said that this is being done in about 9 other states also.

Sen. Giessel(R-S. Anchorage): “Both parties come out ahead. It’s less expensive for the State of Alaska, because we’re purchasing more vaccines. We’re  providing them for now to everyone, and for the insurers, they actually save money, because the provider won’t have to go through the paperwork of submitting reimbursements for the individual, for their vaccination, they’re getting the vaccines at lower cost, so it’s kind of a win-win.”

Senate bill 169 would create a Vaccination Assessment Commission that would operate and oversee and the immunization program.

Now the bill will head to the House for consideration.
