Stolen Vehicle In Homer Leads To Trooper Pursuit

The Alaska State Troopers on Thursday, August 27th, at approximately 5:30 p.m., received a stolen vehicle report from Homer Police Department (HPD) that was last seen driving northbound on the Sterling Highway leaving Homer.
At around 6:00 p.m., Troopers observed a maroon truck matching the description of the stolen vehicle near mile 145 of the Sterling Highway, near Happy Valley. AST attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to stop.
Troopers pursued the vehicle until it crashed near mile 116 of the Sterling Highway, North of Clam Cluch.
The driver attempted to flee the scene but was detained.
Subsequent investigation resulted in Thomas Schultz, age 34 of Anchorage, being placed under arrest for one count of Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer, two counts of Vehicle Theft in the 1st Degree, one count of Assault in the 3rd Degree, and one count of Driving While License was Suspended.
Thomas was transported to the Wildwood Pre-Trial Facility for remand.
