The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning and special statement for heavy rainfall over this weekend.
KSRM’s Meteorologist Sally Russell has more details on that system.
Russell: “A big strong storm pushing in later on tonight into our Friday. It’s picked up the remnants’ from that tropical storm and that means we’re gonna see a moisture rich system pushing in producing very heavy rain at times especially late tonight through Friday night that’s when the worse of the weather will be however we have rain expected in the forecast through the weekend and into the beginning of next week. So we are gonna see wide spread rain gusting winds from the southwest into south-central Alaska. We are expecting the heaviest rain to be along the eastern Kenai Peninsula and the north gulf coast starting tonight and lasting into Saturday. The model’s indicating that we could pick up anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of rainfall over the same area over the eastern Kenai Peninsula and the north gulf coast tonight through Saturday afternoon and that will results in some rising rivers. It’s going to start as we head into the weekend but here in Kenai we may not see our rivers really rising till the beginning or the middle of next week. So this could be a prolonged event even after the really heavy rain diminishes. I’m KSRM meteorologist Sally Russell.”
