The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a high wind watch which will be in effect in from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning.

This is set to effect the Anchorage Hillside, including the cities Anchorage, Eagle River, Indian, and Eklutna.

According to the NWS, Southeast winds are expected to be anywhere between, 35 to 50 mph with gusts up to 75 mph possible.

Anchorage Hillside, particularly east of Hillside Drive / Rabbit Creek Rd, may receive strong winds from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning. Winds will steadily increase through the day on Monday and remain strong for several hours before diminishing Tuesday afternoon.

Warm temperatures of around 40 degrees are likely to accompany the strong wind.

Lower Anchorage may also receive strong wind gusts, but there remains high uncertainty with regards to how strong. A strong Southeast wind out of the Turnagain Arm is likely to clip south Anchorage, resulting in gusts upwards of 40 mph, mainly south of Dimond Blvd.

High winds could move loose debris, damage property, and cause power outages. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Residents are asked to fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.
