U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan highlighted how Alaska’s assets can help the state improve its own fiscal standing, along with the nation’s during his address to Alaskan lawmakers today.
Sullivan says because of Alaska’s strategic location, the northernmost state has the ability to provide natural resources to the U.S., along with serving as a military foothold in the Arctic.
He also highlighted issues facing Alaska that he’s been working on in the U.S. Congress, including the state’s high domestic violence and sexual abuse rates, a non-efficient veterans’ health care system, and opioid addiction.
But Sullivan’s top priority has been advocating for defense policies that help enhance Alaska’s military capability, he stated increased defense spending will boost Alaska’s economy while bolstering national security.
After his address, Senator Sullivan commented on presidential candidate Donald Trump’s claim that he knows nothing about the former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, who recently endorsed Trump.
Sullivan remarked to reporters that the idea of anyone remotely contemplating accepting support from the KKK is “idiotic”.
Alaska’s junior Senator says he’ll vote in the state Republican party’s presidential preference poll Tuesday. But he would not say for whom.
