Sullivan is Alaska’s Newest Junior U.S. Senator

Dan Sullivan took his oath of office to become Alaska’s newest U.S. Senator this morning, becoming the 8th person since statehood to represent Alaska.

 

He was called up to the senate floor alongside Senators Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Jean Shaheen of New Hampshire and Thom Tillis of North Carolina.

 

Vice President Joe Biden presided over the ceremony.

Biden: “Do you solemnly swear you will support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic, that you will bare true faith and allegiance to the same, that you take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion that you well and faithfully discharge the duties of your office on upon which you’re about to enter, so help you god.”

Sullivan is a part of the new republican-led majority in the senate.

 

Governor Walker also traveled to Washington D.C. for the swearing in today and according to his press office planned to meet with a variety of leaders in regards to Alaska issues before his departure Wednesday.

 

On the other side of congress, Representative Don Young wasn’t available to be sworn in as he was attending a memorial service in California for his 84 year-old late brother Russell Young.
