Sullivan Selective on Federal Presence in Alaska

He might be our federal representative, but U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan says the state does well to resist federal overreach.

Sullivan yesterday addressed a joint session of the State Legislature and said he supports state decision-making, while he values Alaska’s federal military presence…

Sullivan: “When the military is looking at possible troop reductions, every Senator goes to the mat to try and stop that. The best way, in my view, to really prevent that is to tie the location and the troop presence in Alaska to the broader national security of our country. I’ve been highlighting, as I did in the speech today, what’s going on with regard to the militarization of the Arctic by the Russians, which is incredibly aggressive.”

Sullivan also made note of his attempts to reign in the Environmental Protection Agency, which include a bill that exempts fishing vessels from certain discharge regulations. He’s also supported a bill to prevent EPA agents from carrying firearms.
