Summer Electrical Work Planned for Soldotna, Homer

Author: archive |

Some Soldotna and Homer neighborhoods will experience power outages this summer as Homer Electric Association restores underground cables.

HEA’s Joe Gallagher…

Gallagher: “Homer Electric will be continuing to inject underground cable with a fluid that makes repairs and extends the life of the cable. The cable injection project will begin this summer, we’re going to be working in the Homer area and in the Soldotna areas throughout this summer.”

Gallagher said they will be notifying individual neighborhoods before each area is affected. The number of power outages “will be kept to a minimum and every effort will be made to limit the duration of the outages.”

Gallagher: “Our first project actually took place in May in the Ciechanski area, then we will be moving down to the Homer area out on East End Road, got a couple of projects there, as well as in Soldotna. Again, we’ll be letting the neighborhoods know through phone calls that the work is taking place.”

Gallagher said the project is intended to repair cracks in the cable and prevent future failures for up to 40 years.
