The Alaska National Guard Rescue Center, as well as the Alaska Army Air Guard, provided rescue crews when searching for two Tyonek hunters on Sunday morning.
Early Sunday at around 1:06 a.m., Alaska State Troopers received a report that Nicholas Stanifer, age 26, and Zachary Constantine, age 24, both of Tyonek, were overdue from hunting. A local search party was already actively searching and advised troopers that they would offer an update after sunrise, according to online trooper dispatch. When the update came, the men had not yet been located.
The Alaska National Guard Rescue Center was asked to provide search assistance. A rescue helicopter was launched. At approximately 11:15 a.m., troopers received report that the hunters had been found and flown back to Tyonek. Online dispatch reported that they were cold, but thankfully uninjured.
Alaska State Troopers took time to express appreciation to the staff of the Alaska National Guard Rescue Center well as the Alaska Army Air Guard rescue crews who participated in the incident.
