Shane Sundberg, playing in the opening round of the 2022 Alaska Match Play Championships at Moose Run Creek Golf Course in Anchorage, posted an opening round 71 and recorded a rare Hole-in-One on the Par 4, 8th Hole–termed an Albatross Ace.
Sundberg holed-out his tee shot on the Par 4, 295-yard eighth hole recording a “1” on his scorecard; enroute to a first round 71 which is good for second place on the leaderboard behind pro Rob Nelson who shot 70 on day one of the tournament. 
The tournament features two rounds of normal 18-holes of golf; then, match play on Saturday and Sunday at the Moose Run Creek Course. The top-16 advance to the match play rounds. Soldotna’s Jakob Brown is in 14th after the first round on Thursday.
