Supplemental Voter Pamphlet Sent out for Nov. Election

General election voter pamphlets Alaskans received were missing gubernatorial candidate Bill Walker’s information, and another pamphlet is being sent out.

We asked Division of Elections Executive Director Gail Fenumiai what happened.

Fenumiai: “The division was not notified by Mr.Walker’s campaign that he never received any courtesy letter notifications from the division which is typically our practice of sending information to candidates after they’ve filled for office with information of what materials can go in pamphlet, what the deadlines are, what the fees are, etc. And Mr.Walker never received that specific letter which I’d like to point out there is no legal requirement for the division to do that.”

She said that he was not the only candidate not to receive the letters, however the other candidates contacted the Division of Elections and submitted their information before the initial pamphlet was published.

Fenumiai said she worked with candidate campaigns, including Gov. Sean Parnell’s, to correct the situation.

Fenumiai: “We’ve determined that it would be best to send a new pamphlet out with all the gubernatiorial lieutenant governor candidates.”

That additional pamphlet cost around $47,000.
