According to Trooper Dispatch, Alaska State Troopers believed they were in danger after seeing incoming gunfire while investigating a Kasilof burglary.
On Tuesday morning at approximately 3:00 a.m., a Kasilof man called 911 reporting that multiple people were attempting to break into his home and assault him over a vehicle ownership dispute. The man, Gordon Lee Cote, age 51, reported the people were attempting to kick his front door in and that they had already smashed out a window.
The suspects were attempting to flee when Alaska State Troopers arrived. As Troopers arrived, Cote discharged a shotgun out of the broken window towards arriving Troopers, putting them in-fear of being imminently shot. Cote was taken into custody.
Investigation resulted in Lance Herbert Joe Kitchen, age 28 of Kasilof, being arrested for attempted burglarly, criminal mischief, and assault. Devin Jay Jas, age 23 of Kasilof, was arrested for attempted burglary, criminal mischief, assault, and violation of conditions of release. Brianna Marie Kitchen, age 29 of Kasilof, was arrested for attempted burglary, assault, and making a false report.
Further investigation revealed Cote to be in possession of, and impaired by, methamphetamine, a controlled substance. He was ultimately arrested for three counts of assault on a police officer, two counts of misconduct involving weapons, and one count of misconduct involving a controlled substance.
All four were remanded at Wildwood Pretrial Facility and held with no bail, pending arraignment.
