Suspect in Trooper Deaths Charged

Over the weekend, 19 year-old Nathaniel Lee Kangas was charged in the shooting deaths of Troopers Patrick “Scott” Johnson and Gabriel “Gabe” Rich.

 

Kangas was charged with two counts of first-degree murder on Saturday in front of a Fairbanks court.

 

According to charging documents Kangas shot the Troopers seven times with an assault rifle while they tried to apprehend his father.

 

Trooper Rich and Sergeant Johnson were responding to an incident in Tanana when they were fatally before the incident.

 

The pair had gone to Tanana to follow up on a report that someone may have been brandishing a firearm in the village.
