Swimming State Qualifiers From Peninsula Include Region III Best & Pair Of Olympians

Slide those Olympic medals and memorabilia over a little on the awards mantle; the Region III Swimming & Diving Championships crowned a pair of Olympians as regional champions and the ASAA Alaska State Swimming & Diving Championships will include four individual champions and 23 state qualifiers from the Kenai Peninsula.

 

Region III Individual Champions from Kenai Peninsula

U.S.A. Olympic champion Lydia Jacoby, representing the Seward Seahawks, raced to individual championships in the girls 200 individual medley (2:07.88 ) and in the girls 100 breaststroke (1:00.22).  Lydia’s 100 breaststroke time is .39 faster than her own state record of 1:00.61 set in 2019.

Homer’s Jillian Crooks, Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifier from the Cayman Islands, won the girls 200 freestyle (1:50.54) and the girls 100 freestyle (51.13).

Kenai’s Koda Poulin raced to the boys 500 freestyle championship in 5:02.35.

The Homer Mariners Carly Nelson won the girls 100 butterfly in 57.59.

Homer’s girls 200 freestyle relay placed first in 1:41.73 with team members: Crooks, Carly Nelson, McKenna Carlin and Cassidy Carroll.

 

ASAA Alaska State Swimming & Diving Championships: State Qualifiers

State swimming and diving qualifiers include event champions from the four Region championships contested last weekend.  The top finishers in each conference are selected to fill the remaining lanes as per ASAA guidelines.

Kenai State Qualifiers: Koda Poulin, Samuel Anderson, Madison McDonald and Hager Elserry

SoHi State Qualifiers: Nikita Monyahan, Heidi Snyder, Madison Snyder and Abrielle Werner

Seward State Qualifiers: Lydia Jacoby, Mia Nappi, Paxton Hill, Jackson Bird and Bengimin Ambrosiani

Homer State Qualifiers: Jillian Crooks, Carly Nelson, McKenna Carlin, Cassidy Carroll, Hunter Fry, Skyler Rodriguez, Hazel Pearson, Olivia Ovendorf, Caitlin Gamble and Annabelle Franciscone

 

All athletes must abide by the recently adopted guidelines for ASAA Indoor State Championship Events, including Pre-participation COVID Testing, Mask Policy.

ASAA Alaska State Swimming & Diving Championships: Spectator Guidelines

Spectators will be limited to 2 per athlete. Schools will receive vouchers at the coaches meeting. These vouchers are required in order to pay for entry into the event. Schools will coordinate how to issue the vouchers to parents and others. Spectators must wear masks at all time and are restricted to the areas above the swim/dive deck.
