The Kenai Peninsula Transportation Task Force will host meetings tomorrow, September 17, to ask residents for input on ways to streamline local public transportation.
Community Prevention Coordinator Shari Conner with Change 4 the Kenai said every five years the plan for local public transportation must be reviewed.
Conner: “The meeting is going to be kind of revealing the plan that has been put together based on comments and information that has been gathered in a meeting last month, and kind of make some changes, then also a period of public comments. That one is at PCHS’ office on Marydale in Soldotna and it will be from 10:00 am to noon. And then I will be at the public library in Soldotna, from 1:00 pm until 5:45 pm.”
Currently CARTS is the only local group that applies each year to receive federal funding.
Conner said there may be some ways to make public transit on the Kenai Peninsula more efficient.
Conner: “I think what we’re looking for is community and agency involvement so that the plan that is written has some motivation to start working on some of the gaps and needs that we have in our community. Right now I think we’re spending a lot of money on transportation on a very small amount of people.”
Those interested may stop by the library to submit a written public comment with Conner and she can also help them fill out a public transit survey that Change 4 the Kenai has created.
Comments on the 2015 plan may be submitted directly to CARTS or on the Change 4 the Kenai website through September 21 at 5:00 pm.
